PLUM BLOSSOM ZENDO, a Pittsburgh Zen Community, was formed in 2005 to offer Zen practice to southwestern Pennsylvania residents. We are an affiliate center of Still Mind Zendo, a zen center located in New York City and is in the lineage of Maezumi Roshi and the White Plum Asangha. Our principal teacher is Sensei Janet Jiryu Abels, the founder and resident teacher of Still Mind Zendo. All are welcome to join and participate in our community with a special welcome extended to newcomers to Zen.
Our practice is focused on the needs of lay people who seek to deepen their spiritual practice in the midst of family and career responsibilities. We offer a challenging yet nurturing environment which emphasizes strong zazen (sitting meditation) practice, a robust commitment to realizing our true nature, and careful attention to the present moment within and outside the zendo.
To practice Zen is to practice being present to this moment which is the only place where life can be experienced.
When we awaken to just this moment and fully accept it as it is not as it should be or could be we realize we are completely and utterly safe.
